The School was established within the COST TD1104 Action European network for development of electroporation-based technologies and treatments (EP4Bio2Med , coordinated by Damijan Miklavcic). The 1^st PEF School  was organized in Spain in January 2014 by the research group of Javier Raso at the University of Zaragoza. In the following year, the group of Giovanna Ferrari organized the 2^nd PEF School  in Italy as a joint effort from the University of Salerno and the ProdAl Scarl Interuniversity Research Center. The 3^rd PEF School  took place in Ireland in 2016 as the final School within the COST Action. It was organized by James Lyng from the University College Dublin.

This year’s PEF School is taking place at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) Vienna. It aims at sustaining this successful history of training, education, networking and knowledge exchange in the area of PEF Applications in Food and Biotechnology.
